The Land of Shadows is a dark dimension accessible only through portals created by the Chaos Pearls.
Description[]
The Land of Shadows is an immensely large world resembling a space-void; the sky is a bright orange with hints of yellow, the boundaries constantly shifting horizontally in spiral patterns. It somewhat resembles the inside of eye of a storm, the boundaries being the eyewall.
There are several chunks of rocks and stone structures floating about within this world. It is unknown how they are able to float, despite gravity still existing. Some broken rocks appear to have decorative carvings on them such as patterns resembling nines ( 9 ), several stone statues of a vaguely Meso-American fashion (one resembling Quetzalcoatl and a second unknown maned creature, perhaps a jaguar). These broken rocks may once been connected to form a complete structure or even multiple structures.
It is revealed in "Ball's Well That Friends Well" that the stalactites in this world are edible, which allowed Julian to survive inside the Land of Shadows without worrying about food. There is also a pipe-bat creature that expels seemingly normal water, which Howard used to wake up the unconscious Ninja. It is possible that Julian likewise used this method to acquire drinking water.
Normal people can't enter this realm unless they are dragged into this place by their evil chaos counterparts (induced by the Chaos Pearls). However, they are able to escape, by being swallowed by the Portal Beast.
History[]
Over 800 years ago and before the Norisu Nine and later Norrisville Ninja came to be, the Peddler was trapped in this realm after the Sorcerer came to be by the Chaos Pearls.
It was here that the Sorceress was banished by the First Norrisville Ninja in 1209, as seen in "Sorcerer in Love." She escaped eight hundred years later, only to be banished back again by Randy in "Sorcerer in Love 2: The Sorceress's Revenge."
Later, the evil version of Julian, which was created by a Chaos Pearl, became trapped there after Randy and Howard tricked him in "Julian's Birthday Surprise." In "Snow-Klahoma!," Evil Julian switched places with Julian, leaving Julian trapped in the Land of Shadows and Evil Julian roaming free in Norrisville. In "Ball's Well That Friends Well," Randy and Howard were also trapped there, but escaped along with Julian and the Peddler, the Sorcerer's former human self.
Places of Interest[]
- The Hazard-Filled Swine Field: A field filled with pigs' faces and butts, the butts occasionally farting.
- The Strange and Ojurest Cliff Faces: Cliffs with several rocks carven to look like faces that can suck things and people.
- The Creepy and Grotesque Sea of Larva: A sea filled with creepy and grotesque larvae.
- Cave: A dark and ominous cave inhabited by the Peddler and a bull-like monster with a portal in his body. Before the cave are parallel lines of several pyramidal structures. The structure appears to be a combination of a stone staircase on one side and on the other side is a statue of a man sitting and leaning against the pyramid with a deeply carven ramp across his chest. On the third side, in-between these two, there appears to be a broken canal from the top to the bottom of the pyramid. There also appears to be an open water tank at the bottom, which may have been connected to the canal.

- According to Scott Thomas in a Tumblr post of Secrets of the 9, the Land of Shadows is one of nine dark realms.
- The actual Land of Shadows is seen in "Julian's Birthday Surprise." It is also shown that the Land of Shadows may be one of the nine dark realms where the Chaos Pearls originated from.
- The Sorcerer and the Sorceress can combine their magic to create a portal to the Land of Shadows. However, both the Sorcerer and the Sorceress are also able to create a portal by themselves, as well is Evil Julian.
- The stone structures within the Land of Shadows appear to likely be inspired by Mesoamerican designs and/or Aztec/Mayan influences.
- One of the floating gargoyle statues bears similarities to the iconography of Quetzalcoatl. The second gargoyle's inspiration is unknown.
- 800 years after her banishment, the Sorceress escaped the Land of Shadows, but it's unknown how she did it and if she can or will do it again. It's likely she used the same portal that Randy, Howard, and Julian used to get back.
- Noodle-like creatures come up the portal to grab victims and pull them down into the Land of Shadows. Like the Sorceress, Randy nearly got dragged into the Land of Shadows twice, but Howard saves him both times.
- Images or spirits of unknown creatures can be seen swirling around in the portal.
- The Land of Shadows was designed by designer Vance Caines.[1]
